Pune, 16th May 2025: In a major initiative to promote environmental awareness and tree plantation, Pune Police, the Pune Forest Department, and the Pune-based Vrukshathon Foundation will jointly organize the fourth edition of the Vrukshathon Marathon on 1st June. The event is being held in anticipation of International Environment Day, which is celebrated globally on 5th June.
The primary objective of Vrukshathon 2025 is to raise public consciousness about tree plantation and nature conservation. Since its inception in 2018, the marathon has grown in scale, with over 10,000 participants expected from across the country this year. Each participant will receive a free sapling from the Forest Department, along with guidance on nurturing the plant.
The marathon will feature four race categories: 3 km, 5 km, 10 km, and a 21 km half marathon, with separate age groups of 18-30, 31-45, 46-60, and 61 years and above. Environmentally friendly prizes, including electric bikes, electric cycles, and other valuable rewards worth lakhs of rupees, will be awarded to winners.
The race routes will start and end at Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar, with specific turning points at key city landmarks such as Chafekar Chowk, E-Square, Chatushrungi Chowk, Pashan Road, Abhimanshree Society, DRDO Gate, Pashan Circle, Bavdhan, and Chandni Chowk, depending on the race category. Organizers will provide T-shirts, bibs, goody bags, snacks, and water bottles to all participants. Hydration points, ambulances, medical teams, volunteers, and directional signage will be available throughout the course for the safety and convenience of runners.
During the marathon on 1st June, traffic diversions will be implemented along the race routes, with alternative arrangements to be communicated by the Pune City Traffic Branch. Organizers have appealed to environmental enthusiasts, citizens, and runners from Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra, and across India to participate in the marathon and contribute to tree plantation and nature conservation efforts.
