Pune: To Resolve Traffic Jam In Katraj Chowk, Take Meeting Of Concerned Organizations And Come Up With Solution; MP Supriya Sule's Notice To Municipal Commissioner

Katraj, 23rd January 2023: Due to the ongoing flyover and road widening work at Katraj Chowk, there is a huge traffic jam and long queues of vehicles.

MP Supriya Sule suggested to Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), and the Water Supply Department should hold an urgent meeting and coordinate to solve this.

MP Sule visited Katraj Chowk today at 9 am during rush hours and took stock of the traffic congestion and ongoing works here. Inspecting the works, he directed the officials to start the works immediately. Also, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has given instructions to call a joint meeting of all the concerned organizations working on their initiative to find a solution to this dilemma.

Along with flyover and road works, all the works like MSEDCL, service road, and a water pipeline are going on together. As a result, there is a huge traffic jam here. All types of vehicle drivers, pedestrians, roadside traders, shopkeepers, and local citizens are also facing a lot of trouble due to this dilemma.

The work of lifting pillars for the flyover is going on in the middle of the road. Meanwhile, the service road and widening are also going on on both sides. As a result, the road available for traffic has become very inadequate, and not only that, but its condition has deteriorated. As a result, minor accidents are also happening. Sule has said that this is a serious matter.

“The lack of coordination and alternative measures in various departments of the government regarding these works is visible. A few days ago, in a meeting held with Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, there was a detailed discussion on four issues namely electricity, water pipeline, bridgework, and service roads in Katraj Chowk. At that time, the municipal corporation had given a deadline of May 1, 2023, to complete these works. However, considering the speed, scope, and method of work, it is not possible to achieve this date,” Sule alleged at this time.

“We are continuously pursuing this work. But as the expected cooperation of the municipal administration is still not getting, these works are going on at a slow pace,” she added further said.

Former chartered officer and leader of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Purandar-Haveli Sambhajirao Zende, former corporator Yuvraj Beldare, Santosh Farande along with local citizens and office bearers, and activists of NCP were present on this occasion.
