Pune to See Rs 80,000-Crore Development Push, Says CM Devendra Fadnavis
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Katraj, 5th January 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced that development projects worth nearly ₹80,000 crore will be implemented in Pune in the coming years to ensure the city’s overall growth. He was speaking at a public rally held at Katraj Chowk.
Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol, state ministers Chandrakant Patil, Pankaja Munde and Madhuri Misal, along with city MLAs, BJP office-bearers and party workers, were present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, Fadnavis said Pune is one of the country’s most important cities from a cultural, industrial and educational perspective and serves as the economic engine of Maharashtra. He stated that during the previous five years, when the BJP was in power in the Pune Municipal Corporation, comprehensive development work was carried out. He added that critics should verify the facts before making allegations.
The chief minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre and the state government have prepared a robust development blueprint for Pune. He informed that the Pune Metro project has a planned network of 110 km, of which around 31 percent of the work has been completed, while 24 km of routes are in the final stage. He also said that 75 percent of the 24×7 water supply scheme has been completed.
Fadnavis further noted that sewage treatment projects and an 88-km river rejuvenation initiative will help with flood control and environmental protection. A city development plan worth ₹44,000 crore has been prepared as part of the broader infrastructure push.
To address traffic congestion, the government plans to implement flyovers, a ring road, a 54-km underground road network and an Intelligent Traffic Management System. He also said the government is committed to introducing AI-based CCTV surveillance, smart schools and affordable healthcare facilities for citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Mohol said the BJP had carried out substantial work in the Pune Municipal Corporation over the past five years, leading to visible changes in the city. He said Pune residents have consistently supported the BJP in various elections and claimed that the party would continue to lead the city’s development. Mohol also questioned whether adequate long-term planning had been done during previous administrations, especially in view of Pune’s rapid expansion.
State minister Chandrakant Patil said that governments led by Ajit Pawar had been in power in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations for several years in the past. He said that after the BJP secured a majority and governed both cities for five consecutive years, several development projects were initiated. Patil alleged that despite having served as guardian minister of Pune district for many years, Ajit Pawar is now criticising the BJP over development works, prompting citizens to question why similar large-scale development was not undertaken earlier.
