Pune: Town Planning Scheme Proposed For Undeveloped Areas Of Mundhwa

Mundhwa, 6th March 2025: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed the implementation of a Town Planning (TP) scheme for certain underdeveloped areas of Mundhwa, seeking approval from the City Improvement Committee (CIC).
Although Mundhwa is included in the Development Plan (DP), certain sections—Survey Nos. 45 to 48 and 64 to 70—have not seen systematic development. As a result, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale has put forth a proposal to introduce a TP scheme in these areas to ensure planned growth and infrastructure improvements.
The proposal had been discussed in the CIC meeting held on Wednesday (5th March). However, since the municipal commissioner currently holds administrative control due to the absence of an elected body, the approval of this plan is almost certain.
Former BJP corporator Umesh Gaikwad had earlier written to the PMC Commissioner, urging the introduction of a TP scheme for Mundhwa to facilitate comprehensive urban development. In response, the commissioner has presented the proposal for approval.
As per the plan, the total area covered under the scheme is 7.5 lakh square meters. Out of this:
– 1,732 square meters is already approved for construction
– 1.1 lakh square meters will be allocated for roads
– 43,500 square meters will be reserved for public amenities
– 11,800 square meters will be designated for industrial use
The PMC elections have been postponed, and currently, the administrator holds complete control over municipal decisions. While there had been demands for a TP scheme in Mundhwa for several years, the sudden introduction of this proposal has sparked discussions within the municipal corporation about the timing and motives behind the move.
