Pune Traffic Alert: These Roads Will Face Closures and Diversions During Ganesh Idol Buying

Pune, 11th September 2026: Pune Traffic Police have announced temporary road closures, diversions, one-way routes and designated parking arrangements across the city from September 12 to 14 to manage the expected rush for Ganesh idol purchases and installation ceremonies.

The restrictions will primarily affect Shivaji Road, the Sarasbaug–Sinhagad Road corridor and Keshavnagar–Mundhwa. Most changes will remain in force from 6 am to midnight, while restrictions in Keshavnagar and Mundhwa will generally apply from 6 am to 10 pm on all three days.

Large numbers of devotees and Ganesh mandals are expected to visit idol markets around Dengle Bridge, Shivaji Putla, Kumbharwada, Keshavnagar, Mundhwa and Sarasbaug during the period.

“Temporary traffic changes have been introduced to ensure the safe and smooth movement of citizens and vehicles and to prevent congestion near Ganesh idol markets,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare said in the press note.

Shivaji Road to be closed on key stretch

The stretch of Shivaji Road between Gadgil Putla Chowk and Gotiram Bhaiya Chowk will be closed to vehicular traffic.

Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes through Santaji Ghorpade Chowk, Dengle Bridge, Jangli Maharaj Road, Tilak Chowk, Mangala Cinema Lane and Premier Garage Chowk, depending on their destination.

Vehicles travelling from Shivajinagar towards Swargate should turn left at S.G. Barve Chowk, use Dengle Bridge and proceed through Jangli Maharaj Road and Tilak Chowk.

Traffic approaching Kumbharwada from the Jhansi Rani Chowk side should use Mangala Cinema Lane, Premier Garage Chowk, Shivaji Putla Road, Gadgil Putla Chowk and Dengle Bridge.

No parking near Sarasbaug idol market

Parking will be prohibited on both sides of the road from Veer Savarkar Putla Chowk to Samadhan Mangal Karyalaya on Sinhagad Road. Barricades and ropes will be installed wherever required to regulate traffic.

Mitramandal Chowk to Patil Plaza

The left side of the road between Jamanlal Bajaj Statue and Puram Chowk

Nilayam Bridge to Sinhagad Road Junction

Restrictions in Keshavnagar and Mundhwa

Temporary one-way arrangements will be implemented in Keshavnagar and Mundhwa between 6 am and 10 pm from September 12 to 14.

Vehicles travelling from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Keshavnagar towards Manjari will be diverted through the Renuka Mata temple area and the Vihan Sosa Road side.

Vehicles arriving from Kharadi Bridge will also be diverted near Renuka Mata temple towards Vihan Sosa Road and Shivaji Maharaj Chowk.

Heavy vehicles will not be permitted on the stretch between Mundhwa Chowk and Shivaji Chowk, up to Kalyani Bungalow Road, or on roads surrounding Keshavnagar’s Dead Corner area.

Alternative one-way routes will remain available through:

Phadke Haud Chowk–Jijamata Chowk–Futka Buruj

Appa Balwant Chowk–Budhwar Chowk–Moti Chowk

The lane beside Premier Garage near Mangala Talkies towards Kumbharwada

Parking spaces identified in Keshavnagar area

Vehicles belonging to devotees and Ganesh mandals may be parked at designated locations, including:

One side of the road between Kamanagar Putla Chowk and Shivaji statue

The southern side of the road between the civic corporation’s Vilasrao centre and Gadgil Statue Chowk

The riverbed road between Tilak Bridge and Bhide Bridge

Minerva and Aryan parking grounds in Mandai
The left side of the road from Shah Chowk, also known as Phadke Haud Chowk, towards Rashtrabhushan Chowk

PMPML buses to be diverted

PMPML buses operating from Shivajinagar towards Swargate will be diverted through Jangli Maharaj Road, Tilak Chowk and Tilak Road instead of using Shivaji Bridge.

Buses travelling from the PMC bus stop towards Swargate will use Jhansi Rani Chowk, Jangli Maharaj Road, Alka Talkies Chowk and Tilak Road or Shastri Road.

“Motorists should avoid the affected stretches, follow the notified diversions and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles,” DCP Bhajibhakare said.
