Pune, 9th February 2024: The Pune city traffic branch has initiated a crackdown on motorists violating Section 198(47) of the Motor Vehicle Act, particularly those modifying the silencers of motorcycles, especially Royal Enfield Bullets. The rampant use of modified silencers is not only a violation of the law but is also contributing to noise pollution in various areas of the city, both day and night.

In response to this issue, the Pune city traffic branch has launched a special campaign to address and take strict action against motorcycle riders with modified silencers across the entire city.

DCP (Traffic Branch) Shashikant Borate provided details on the recent enforcement efforts, stating, “We conducted a special drive against motorcycle riders with modified silencers on Thursday and Friday. Our teams took action by removing silencers from 571 motorcycles. The majority of these actions were concentrated in the Airport, Handewadi, Koregaon Park, Deccan, Bharti Vidyapeeth, and Hadapsar traffic divisions.”

The Pune City Traffic Branch is urging citizens to report instances of motorcycle riders using modified silencers. If such violations are observed, citizens are encouraged to inform the Pune City Traffic Branch via WhatsApp at 8087240400, providing the vehicle number and location.

DCP Borate emphasized that strict actions will be taken against both the riders and shopkeepers selling such modified silencers to curb this unlawful practice and address the rising issue of noise pollution.
