Pune: Traffic Chaos at Viman Nagar’s Datta Mandir Chowk Causes Havoc for Residents

Viman Nagar, 6th June 2023: A video captured by Veteran Wg Cdr A Banerjee on Sunday evening has highlighted the severe traffic congestion and chaos that plagues the Datta Mandir Chowk in Viman Nagar, Pune. The footage, taken at 8:00 pm on June 4, 2023, sheds light on the traffic nightmare that unfolds at this bustling junction between 6 pm and 10 pm, even on weekends.
The traffic control lights at this critical intersection are mysteriously left switched off during Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. To compound the issue, the presence of Traffic Branch police constables, who are usually stationed at the junction throughout the week, is noticeably absent on these crucial nights. As a result, navigating a mere 10-meter distance in the chaotic snarl can take up to 40 minutes, causing immense frustration and inconvenience for commuters.
What exacerbates the situation further is the proximity of the Police Traffic Branch office, located just 150 meters away at Royal Towers, as well as the Vimantal Police Station, a mere 100 meters from Datta Mandir Chowk. Despite these nearby police facilities, the traffic indiscipline and lack of enforcement at Viman Nagar continue to plague residents, leading to significant harassment and wastage of valuable time.
The residents of Viman Nagar are left to contend with the inefficiency and lackadaisical attitude of the Traffic Control Branch, which has failed to address the persistent traffic issues in the area. The absence of functioning traffic lights and the lack of police presence during peak hours have created a situation of chaos and disorder, causing immense inconvenience to the residents.
Concerned citizens are now calling for immediate action from the authorities to rectify this dire situation. They emphasize the urgent need for proper traffic management and enforcement during peak hours, particularly on weekends when the congestion reaches its peak.
