Pune: Traffic Curbs for Amit Shah’s Visit Prompt School Closures Across Katraj–Uruli Devachi Stretch
Pune, 4th July 2025: Several schools in Pune’s southern corridor, stretching from Katraj to Uruli Devachi, will remain closed on Friday due to major traffic restrictions in place for the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The minister’s city tour is expected to impact key areas including Kondhwa, Undri, Wadachiwadi, and Khadi Machine Chowk, where multiple official events are scheduled between 11:30 am and 3:30 pm. In anticipation of traffic disruptions, many schools have opted for a precautionary holiday to avoid inconvenience to students and staff.
Key Events on Shah’s Itinerary
Amit Shah will begin his Pune visit by unveiling a statue of Shreemant Thorle Bajirao Peshwa at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla. He is also slated to lay the foundation stone for the Jayraj Sports and Convention Centre at Kondhwa Budruk, visit the Balasaheb Deora Hospital at Khadi Machine Chowk, and inaugurate the PHRC Health City Project at Wadachiwadi.
Schools Issue Closure Notices
Among the first to announce closure, The Bishop’s Co-Ed School, Undri circulated a notice to parents, stating:
“In view of traffic diversions due to the VIP visit, and to prevent inconvenience for students during return travel, the school will remain shut on Friday for all grades from nursery to Class 12.”
The school also announced that online classes would be conducted for students of Classes 1 and 2.
A representative from RIMS International School, Kondhwa said their institution was also preparing to suspend physical classes:
“We are considering a precautionary closure due to expected traffic congestion, though the final call will be taken by the management.”
St. Mathews Academy in Uruli Devachi confirmed it would not operate on Friday either.
“Since the Union Home Minister is scheduled to pass through our area and significant traffic disruptions are expected, we have decided to declare a one-day holiday,” said a school official.
