Pune: Traffic Jam Persists Despite New Sinhagad Road Flyover; Top Officials Conduct Inspection

Pune, 3rd May 2025: Despite the recent inauguration of a multi-crore flyover on Sinhagad Road, traffic congestion continues to plague commuters. In response to growing public frustration, senior officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) engineers, conducted an on-ground inspection on Saturday morning to identify the underlying issues.
The flyover connecting Vitthalwadi to Funtime Theater was inaugurated just two days ago, on May 1, by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. However, by the evening of May 2, a severe traffic jam was reported at Veer Baji Pasalkar Chowk in Vadgaon. Commuters faced delays of up to 30 minutes on what should have been a three-minute journey across the bridge, reigniting concerns over traffic management.
Taking swift action, officials inspected the entire stretch from Rajaram Bridge to Pasalkar Bridge early Saturday. The team, including PMC Executive Engineer Sandeep Patil, focused on key congestion factors such as road width, encroachments, illegal parking, and unplanned speed breakers—particularly between Funtime Theater and Vadgaon Bridge.
“Instructions have been given to the Municipal Corporation and the Police Department to immediately implement corrective measures to ease traffic on Sinhagad Road,” said Manoj Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police.
Local residents have long demanded better traffic solutions in the area, and while the flyover aimed to address the bottleneck, experts say a more comprehensive plan—including removal of encroachments and stricter parking enforcement—is essential for long-term improvement.
