Pune Traffic Planning 2026: Divisional Commissioner Calls for Data-Driven Solutions to Ease Congestion
Pune, 13th February 2026: The Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA) review meeting was held on Friday under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Dr Chandrakant Pulkundwar at the Divisional Commissioner’s office, focusing on traffic planning, streamlining and implementation of transport projects in Pune city.
Chairing the meeting, Dr Pulkundwar directed officials to identify and prioritise traffic congestion hotspots and implement targeted projects to regulate vehicular movement. He emphasised the need for a detailed study of areas witnessing heavy traffic snarls and called for data-based planning before executing any intervention.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Pune Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B P and PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase, who joined through video conferencing, were present at the meeting.
Dr Pulkundwar instructed officials to conduct a comprehensive assessment of traffic flow patterns in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, including the origin and direction of vehicular movement. He said project proposals should be prepared based on detailed surveys and technical studies to ensure effective traffic regulation.
The meeting also reviewed traffic conditions and infrastructure plans in key areas such as Vishrantwadi, Mundhwa Chowk, the stretch from Market Yard to Seven Loves Chowk, Golibar Maidan, Ghorpadi Bridge and the Magarpatta area. Discussions were held on strengthening public transport corridors, exploring the feasibility of a double-decker tunnel, and identifying land for parking facilities for new PMPML buses.
The authority is expected to further deliberate on these proposals and finalise priority-based projects aimed at easing traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.
