Pune Traffic Police Announce Route Diversions for Bakrid Prayers on May 28

Pune, 27th May 2026: In preparation for Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) on Thursday, May 28, 2026, the Pune City Traffic Police have announced a series of temporary traffic diversions and road closures around Idgah Maidan at Golibar Chowk. These measures are being implemented to accommodate the large crowds gathering for mass prayers (Namaz) and to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow.

According to a press release issued by Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), the restrictions will be in effect from 6:00 AM on May 28 until the prayers conclude around 11:30 AM. All essential service vehicles, including police cars, fire engines, and ambulances, are exempt from these traffic changes.

Traffic across all vehicle categories will be restricted between Mammadevi Chowk, Golibar Maidan Chowk, Dhole Patil (Seven Loves) Chowk, and CDO Chowk. Commuters are advised to take note of the following specific closures and alternative routes:

Key Traffic Changes and Alternate Routes:

  1. Bhairoba Nala to Golibar Maidan: Traffic on this route will be halted from 6:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
    • Alternate Route: Heavy vehicles heading towards Swargate (for Market Yard only) are advised to take Prince of Wales Road via Lullanagar Chowk. Light vehicles heading to Pune Station should take Empress Garden Road.
  2. Mammadevi Chowk to Golibar Maidan: The road from Mammadevi Chowk towards Golibar Maidan will be closed.
    • Alternate Route: Commuters should travel via Bishop’s School or Command Hospital, or take Napier Road through CDO Chowk to reach their destinations.
  3. CDO Chowk to Golibar Chowk: Traffic moving from CDO Chowk to Golibar Chowk will be entirely closed during the prayer timings.
    • Alternate Route: Vehicles arriving from Lullanagar must take a left turn at CDO Chowk. Additionally, the existing right-turn ban at Khatav Bungalow Chowk will be temporarily lifted. Vehicles can turn right from Khatav Bungalow Chowk, take Napier Road to Mammadevi Chowk, and proceed straight via Bishop’s School.
  4. Seven Loves Chowk to Golibar Maidan: The route leading from Seven Loves (Dhole Patil) Chowk to Golibar Maidan will be restricted.
    • Alternate Route: Vehicles should divert through Salisbury Park, CDO Chowk, and Bhairoba Nala to continue their journey.
  5. Old Solapur Bazar Chowki to Golibar Chowk: This stretch will be closed for regular traffic.
    • Alternate Route: Vehicles coming from Khane Maruti Chowk should travel via Pulgate Depot and Solapur Bazar Chowk, taking Napier Road towards Khatav Bungalow or Mammadevi Chowk.
  6. Lullanagar Chowk to Golibar Maidan (Heavy Vehicles): The entry of all heavy goods vehicles, heavy passenger vehicles, ST buses, and PMPML buses coming from Lullanagar Chowk towards Golibar is strictly prohibited.
    • Alternate Route: These large vehicles must divert via Bhairoba Nala Chowk or Gangadham Chowk from Lullanagar.

The Traffic Department has also noted that mass Namaz will be offered at several other Idgah Maidans across the city. Depending on the local situation and crowd density in those localities, temporary closures or diversions may be enforced by on-ground officers.

The police have appealed to citizens and drivers to cooperate with traffic officials and utilize the designated alternate routes to avoid potential inconvenience.
