Pune Traffic Police Announces Rs 50,000 Reward for Reporting Traffic Violations
Pune, 10th February 2026: In a dual approach to improving road safety, the Pune City Traffic Police have announced a significant cash reward for vigilant citizens while conducting a mass counseling session for repeat traffic offenders.
Rewards for Citizen Reporting
To encourage public participation in maintaining order, the authorities have announced a reward of ₹50,000 for the individuals who report the highest number of traffic violations through the Pune Traffic Police (PTP) app. Additional CP Manoj Patil highlighted the ease of the process, noting that citizens can simply use their smartphones to capture photos or videos of violations and upload them directly.
The app has already seen high engagement, with 1.80 lakh offences reported by the public to date. From these reports, the police have successfully issued challans to 1.16 lakh violators.
Counseling for Drunk Driving Offenders
On Monday, the Traffic Branch hosted a specialized counseling and awareness program at the Police Headquarters in Shivajinagar. Held between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, the session specifically targeted approximately 550 to 600 motorists who had been caught driving under the influence (DUI) during the year 2025.
The event, organized under the guidance of Joint CP Ranjan Kumar Sharma and Additional CP (East Region) Manoj Patil, aimed to instill a sense of social responsibility among offenders.

Key Highlights from the Session:
Safety Mandates: Joint CP Sharma urged the attendees to become responsible citizens, emphasizing the life-saving importance of wearing helmets and strictly adhering to traffic laws.
Legal Consequences: Officials provided detailed presentations on the legal penalties, potential loss of life, and the grave social impact of drunk driving.
Digital Integration: The department showcased their social media outreach and the functionality of the PTP app to the attendees.
Strict Enforcement Ahead
The session concluded with the motorists pledging to follow traffic regulations and avoid future violations. However, the department is also preparing for a sterner approach. Under the direction of DCP (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav, all traffic divisions have been instructed to execute special “Drunk and Drive” campaigns with even more rigorous enforcement and harsher penalties for violators moving forward.
The Pune Traffic Police confirmed that similar awareness and counseling programs will continue to be a regular feature of their road safety strategy.
