Pune Yard Upgrades Fifth Diamond Layout to 60 Kg, Strengthening Track Safety and Reliability
Pune, 15 September 2026: Central Railway has converted the 52 Kg Diamond Layout, also known as Diamond Single Slip No. 226/228, to a 60 Kg layout at Pune Yard, completing the fifth such conversion at the yard.
The work was completed on September 13 during a mega block planned from 8:15 am to 5 pm. The block was cleared at 4:45 pm, 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled completion time.
Around 150 P-Way workers and 50 Signal and Telecommunication (S&T) staff were deployed for the work, along with four P-Way supervisors, four S&T supervisors, a Glued Joint team and four blacksmiths.
The conversion involved replacement of four stock rails and four tongue rails with fittings, two acute crossings, two obtuse crossings, 12 approach rails and two lead rails.
The teams also fabricated six in-situ glued joints, inserted four prefabricated glued joints, and replaced two switch motors along with roddings during the block.
The 60 Kg conversion is part of track upgradation work being undertaken at Pune Yard. The latest work adds to the four earlier 52 Kg Diamond Layouts that have been converted to 60 Kg at the yard.
The work was jointly executed by the Engineering and S&T departments during the block period.
