Pune: Traffic Police Arrest Murder Accused During Operation Against Wrong-Side Drivers
Sahakar Nagar, 26th December 2024: Pune Police’s Traffic Branch has intensified action against unruly drivers who drive on the wrong side of the road. While this operation was underway in the Bibwewadi area, traffic police arrested a man wanted in connection with the murder of Rohan Phalke in Sangli district. The arrested individual has been identified as Ganesh Malekar, a resident of Sangli.
The Sahakar Nagar Traffic Division was conducting action against traffic violators in the Bibwewadi area when they spotted a bike rider coming from the wrong side of the road. The bike had three people on it. Upon seeing the traffic police, Malekar fled the scene, but the police chased him down and arrested him. During questioning, it was revealed that Malekar was an absconding accused in the murder of Rohan Phalke, which occurred in the Tasgaon area of Sangli District. Malekar had killed Phalke and then fled the scene, injuring his leg in the scuffle.
After arriving in Pune, Malekar reportedly asked a two-wheeler rider to drop him in the city, and it was during this time that he was apprehended. The action was taken by Assistant Police Inspector Prashant Khedkar, along with Police Constables Swapnil Kadam and Sagar Shinde of the Sahakar Nagar Traffic Division. Malekar was subsequently handed over to the Sahakar Nagar police.
