Pune Traffic Police Book 198 Drunk Drivers in Three-Day Special Drive
Pune, 11th May 2026: The Pune City Traffic Police conducted a three-day special drive against drunken driving across the city and took legal action against 198 motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol.
The special enforcement campaign was carried out between May 8 and May 10 at various locations in Pune city.
According to the Traffic Department, a total of 30 checkpoints were set up across different parts of the city, where motorists were screened using breath analysers.
During the drive, action was taken against 198 drivers for violating drunk-driving laws. The offenders were booked under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, and further legal procedures were initiated against them.
As part of the awareness initiative, a counselling and guidance programme was also organised on May 11 for motorists booked during the operation.
The counselling session was held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, Yerawada. A total of 85 drunk drivers attended the programme.

The Pune Traffic Police stated that the objective of the special campaign was to prevent road accidents, improve traffic safety, protect lives and property, and promote disciplined and responsible driving habits among citizens.
The department appealed to citizens not to drive after consuming alcohol, warning that drunken driving is a serious and punishable offence that significantly increases the risk of accidents.
Traffic police urged motorists to strictly follow traffic rules to ensure their own safety as well as the safety of others on the road.
