Pune, 8th December 2025: The Pune City Traffic Police has taken strong action against drunk driving, conducting a special crackdown over three days and penalising 176 motorists found behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol.

The campaign was carried out from December 5 to 7, 2025, across 20 checkpoints set up in various parts of the city. Officials said inspections were intensified as part of efforts to prevent road accidents and ensure safer travel during the festive and winter season rush.

“A total of 176 vehicle drivers were caught driving after consuming alcohol. Strict legal action has been initiated under the Motor Vehicles Act, including penalties and further legal procedures,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav.

He urged residents to strictly follow traffic rules for their own safety and that of others on the road. “Driving under the influence is a serious offence that puts lives at risk. We appeal to citizens to be responsible and avoid drunk driving,” he added.

The Pune City Traffic Police said such enforcement drives will continue to curb dangerous driving practices and reduce accident risks in the city.
