Pune Traffic Police Crack Down: Over Rs 57 Lakh in Fines Collected During 3-Day Special Drive
Pune, 31st March 2026: The Pune City Traffic Police conducted a massive three-day enforcement campaign targeting specific traffic violations, resulting in thousands of cases and the collection of over ₹57 lakh in fines. The special drive, which ran from March 27 to March 29, 2026, focused primarily on triple-seat riding, modified silencers, and drunk driving across the city.
Crackdown on Triple-Seat and Modified Silencers
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav, the department took action against 1,265 motorcyclists for triple-seat riding. Additionally, 320 Royal Enfield (Bullet) motorcycles were penalized for using modified silencers that cause significant noise pollution.
In a strict move, the police removed the illegal silencers on the spot. This segment of the drive alone resulted in a fine collection of ₹5,79,000. Furthermore, 234 modified silencers and 852 vehicles were seized during the operations.
Zero Tolerance for Drunk Driving
To curb the menace of driving under the influence, the traffic branch set up 30 “Nakabandi” (checkpoints) at various strategic locations throughout Pune. During these checks, 186 drivers were caught and booked for drink-and-drive offenses.

Total Enforcement Statistics
The scale of the drive extended beyond the primary targets. When accounting for all various traffic rule violations over the three-day period, the Pune Traffic Police collected a total of ₹51,54,200 in fines.
Police Appeal to Citizens
DCP Himmat Jadhav issued a stern appeal to the public, emphasizing that modified silencers are not just a nuisance but a major source of noise pollution. The police also highlighted the life-threatening risks associated with triple-seat riding and drunk driving.
“Drunk driving is a serious and punishable offense. We urge citizens not to risk their lives or the lives of others,” the statement read. The department further announced that such special drives and counseling programs would continue in the future to ensure disciplined and safe traffic movement in Pune.
