Pune: Tunnel Under Taljai Hill Proposed To Ease Sinhagad Road-Sahakarnagar Traffic
Pune, 19th September 2026: With traffic congestion worsening between Hingne Khurd on Sinhagad Road and Sahakarnagar on Satara Road, Pune mayor Manjusha Nagpure on Friday inspected a proposed tunnel route through the hill below Taljai.
The proposed tunnel from the Hingne-Khorad Vasti area is expected to provide an alternative link between Hingne, Sahakarnagar and Taljai, potentially reducing travel time and distance for commuters.
Nagpure inspected the proposed alignment and sought details from officials on the project’s feasibility, technical requirements and measures needed for its implementation. The proposal is aimed at providing an alternative route and easing pressure on the existing road network as traffic volumes continue to rise in the Sinhagad Road and Satara Road areas.
The mayor also reviewed proposed road-widening work in the Hingne-Khorad Vasti area and plans to construct a culvert over a local drain and enclose it. She directed officials to focus on traffic management, pedestrian safety and infrastructure requirements in view of future traffic growth.
The inspection was attended by corporator Prasanna Jagtap, corporator Jyoti Gosavi, civic project officer Gojare and other officials and staff.
