Pune: Two Arrested for Selling Intoxicating Medicines in Hadapsar
Hadapsar, 10th March 2025: The Hadapsar police have arrested two youths for illegally selling intoxicating medicines, highlighting a growing trend where young people, especially college students, turn to such medications as a cheaper alternative to drugs.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Yogesh Suresh Raut (25), a resident of Manjari, Hadapsar, and Nisar Chand Sheikh (23), a resident of Hadapsar. The arrests were made after constable Mahesh Chavan filed a complaint at Hadapsar police station.
According to the Hadapsar police, Raut and Sheikh neither hold a drug manufacturing degree nor possess a license issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Acting on a tip-off, police learned that the duo was storing and selling illegal medicines commonly used for intoxication. A trap was set, leading to their arrest in the Jijamata Vasahat area of Hadapsar. Several bottles of these medicines were seized from their possession.
Authorities have raised concerns over the increasing misuse of such medicines by young people, especially students. Many individuals struggling with substance abuse turn to these medications due to their affordability and accessibility.
“The sale of such medicines without a doctor’s prescription is strictly prohibited. Misuse can have serious health consequences and, in some cases, even lead to death,” stated police constable Chavan in his complaint.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mogle and Crime Branch Inspector Nilesh Jagdale. Police Sub-Inspector Mulani is leading the investigation.
This is not the first incident of drug-related arrests in Hadapsar. Six months ago, a young woman was arrested in the area for selling similar intoxicating drugs. She herself had reportedly fallen victim to substance abuse.
The police continue to crack down on illegal drug sales and have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to help curb the growing issue of drug abuse among the youth.
