Yerwada, 5th December 2024: Vishrantwadi police have arrested two individuals in connection with the attack on former corporator Chandrakant Tingre, who recently joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar during the campaign period for the assembly elections.

The accused, identified as Revan Tanaji Lagas (20) of Gokul Nagar, Katraj, and Pranjit Achyut Shinde (24) of Handewadi, were allegedly involved in stone-pelting and assault.

The attack took place on November 19 near the Dhanori MSEDCL office, where Chandrakant Tingre and his driver were sitting in their car.

According to a complaint filed by Tingre’s wife, Rekha Tingre, also a former corporator, the accused stopped their car, pelted stones, and assaulted her husband.

The incident has been linked to political tensions following the Tingres’ shift in allegiance. The couple, initially aligned with the BJP and supportive of Mahayuti candidate Sunil Tingre, joined the NCP and declared support for Bapusaheb Pathare during the campaign.

Rekha Tingre has alleged that the attack on her husband was orchestrated by Sunil Tingre’s supporters in retaliation for their defection. While speaking to the media, she directly accused the Mahayuti candidate of inciting the assault.

The police investigation revealed that the accused were angered by the Tingres’ decision to switch parties during the election period. A case of stone-pelting and assault has been registered, and both suspects are currently in police custody.
