Katraj, 16th March 2022: The economic offences wing (EOW) of Pune city police Crime Branch has registered an FIR against builders Rafik Salemohammad Jafrani (62) and his son Hasnain Rafik Jafrani, both residents of Salisbury Park, for allegedly duping investors to the tune of Rs 13 crore under the pretext of lucrative returns.

Based on a complaint from businessman Himanshu Ramesh Mehta (43), the case has been registered at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

According to police, the fraud has been taking place since April 2013. Hasnain allegedly took money from investors for the construction projects under firms HAMY Construction and Prime Properties. He accepted Rs 4.22-crore from Mehta through bank transactions and in cash.

In return for this amount, the accused agreed to provide showrooms in the construction projects HRJ Construction and Hill Town Construction. The accused also gave him his allotment letter. However, the accused did not return the money as well as the committed showrooms. As a result, Mehta was cheated of Rs 5.25 crore. Like him, there are others who have been duped.

The father-son duo has been booked for offences under sections 409, 420, 406 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
