Pune: Two Hours Block On Mumbai-Pune Expressway Tomorrow, July 27

Pune, 26th July 2023: Attention all travelers on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway! A special two-hour road closure is scheduled for tomorrow, July 27, 2023. The recent heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Konkan, and parts of western Maharashtra has triggered rockfalls and landslides in hilly areas. To address safety concerns, a special block will be enforced on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Thursday, with complete closure on the Mumbai side while traffic towards Pune will remain active.
Between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM tomorrow, a two-hour special block will be in effect on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to address loose cracks. During this period, light traffic will be diverted from Magic Point to the old Pune-Mumbai highway, while heavy traffic will be rerouted from Kiwale to the old Pune-Mumbai highway. However, traffic moving towards Pune will remain unaffected.
This decision comes after a crack behind the Adoshi tunnel on the expressway collapsed on July 23, causing mudslides from the loosened soil and debris, including boulders, onto the road, posing a significant safety risk. To prevent accidents, a special two-hour block was also implemented on July 24 to address the issue. Now, this special block will be repeated to remove the remaining loose cracks. Prioritizing the maintenance work is essential for ensuring the safety of commuters.
During the two-hour block, traffic heading towards Mumbai on the Expressway will be completely closed. However, it is crucial to note that the last block was slightly delayed due to unfinished work. Given the ongoing heavy rainfall, there might be concerns about promptly clearing the loosened cracks. As a result, commuters traveling from Pune to Mumbai will have to use the old Mumbai-Pune highway during this period.
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is a heavily used route, with thousands of vehicles passing through it daily. Thus, there might be an increased number of vehicles on the Pune to Mumbai route before the scheduled block, potentially leading to traffic congestion.
Commuters are strongly advised to plan their journeys accordingly and be prepared for possible delays.
