Pune: Two Men Arrested For Hunting Chinkara In Indapur

Pune, 19th May 2021: The officials from the Pune Forest Department have arrested two men for allegedly killing a Chinkara in Kazad-Kalas forest area in Indapur taluka. The incident took place around 10 pm on Tuesday.

A patrolling team noticed torchlight in the forest area on the road to Firangai Mata Mandir and after a chase, the two men were caught. The accused have been identified as Mahesh Janglu Mane (40) of Sansar and Dattatraya Popat Pawar (42) of Bori, both from Indapur taluka.

 

According to the forest department, a dead Chinkara was in a sack besides a 9-bore rifle, six live cartridges and 1 used cartridge, as well as a motorcycle. Both the accused have been arrested in connection with the Chinkara poaching case and the accused have been booked under Section 26 (1) (d) (1) of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 and Sections 2 (16), 9, 11 and 51 of the Wildlife Conservation Act, 1972.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of Deputy Forest Conservator Rahul Patil, Assistant Forest Conservator Ashutosh Shendge, Forest Range Officer (Indapur) Rahul Kale, Forest Ranger Junction Ashok Narute and Forest Ranger (Kalas) Pooja Kate. Also local villagers Atul Narute, Vinod Narute, Sandeep Narute provided valuable assistance.

 

Deputy Conservator of Forest Rahul Patil has appealed to people to immediately inform Forest Department officials if any wildlife is being smuggled or hunted in their area. Information can also be given on Hello Forest Toll-Free number 1926.
