Pune: Two Street Light Poles Collapse in Chavannagar, Power Outage Affects 250 Consumers
Dhankawadi, 6th July 2025: A major disruption occurred on Sunday evening when two street light poles suddenly collapsed on the Chavannagar Tin Hatti Chowk to Nirmal Park road, causing a loud explosion and leading to the complete closure of the road.
The incident triggered a localized power outage, affecting around 250 electricity consumers connected to two substations, according to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). The sudden collapse of the poles also raised concerns over infrastructure safety in the area.
While power supply to the majority of consumers was quickly restored through alternative routes, the affected 250 connections remain without electricity as of Sunday night.
“MSEDCL teams have started urgent restoration work. New poles are being erected overnight, and electricity supply to all affected consumers is expected to resume by midnight,” the agency said in an official statement.
Traffic movement remained suspended on the affected stretch as emergency crews worked to clear debris and ensure public safety. The exact cause of the pole collapse is yet to be determined.
Authorities have urged commuters to avoid the route until normalcy is restored. Further updates are awaited from the power utility and municipal officials.
