Pune: Two Students Duped Of Rs 13.5 Lakh On Pretext Of Admission For MD Course In Philippines, Case Registered

Pune 12 August 2023: In a shocking incident reported in the city, two students were duped of Rs 13.5 lakh by a man from Andhra Pradesh on pretext of securing admission for Doctor of Medicine (MD) course in Philippines. The victims paid money to the accused between June 2019 and October 2021.

According to police, the students came in contact with the accused through a known person and he assured them of securing admission for the course in the Philippines. The parents of the students paid money to the accused on various occasions in installment. However, despite following up the matter for a long time he failed to help them.

Meanwhile, one of the student’s father passed away and she had to give up her education as she had taken admission for the BSc course. Despite demanding a refund on multiple occasions after this, the accused failed to respond after the students approached police to lodge a complaint in the matter. A case in this regard has been registered at Swargate police station under sections 420, 406 and 507 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation in the matter is underway.
