Pune 19th Oct 2023: The Pune City Police have arrested two women for allegedly helping Lalit Patil, the drug racketeer who escaped Sassoon General Hospital during his jail custody at Yerawada Central Jail earlier this month. It is alleged that the women were in contact with Patil and they helped him escape and came out of hospital.

The Nashik police arrested Pragya Kamble and Archana Nikam, the two women associated with Lalit Patil. Subsequently, this morning, the women were handed over to the Pune police. The arrest of Patil’s associates, coupled with his own arrest, could potentially lead to significant revelations concerning a larger drug network. Patil was arrested on Wednesday by the Mumbai Police from a hotel between Bengaluru and Chennai.

It is alleged that these women played a role in helping Lalit Patil evade arrest, thereby assisting him during his time on the run. They provided him with shelter and financial aid, transferring a sum of Rs 25 lakh to him. Additionally, Patil also gave them some silver according to reports suggesting the presence of undisclosed assets, potentially leading to significant discoveries.

It may be noted that Mumbai Police had recently busted a drug manufacturing factory linked to Lalit Patil in Nashik. Lalit Patil’s escape from hospital raised serious questions on authorities following which a committee was formed by the state government to investigate facts related to his escape.
