Food Delivery Agents and Cabs, Auto Rickshaws to Go On Strike in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad on Oct 25, Know Details
Pune 19th Oct 2023: The food delivery agents and cabs, auto rickshaws that operate with application-based aggregators in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have announced a strike on October 25 to protest against the state government. The protest aims to demand introduction of the Gig Workers Registration and Welfare Act in Maharashtra.
The act according to the activists will secure the rights of workers from different kinds of harassment by their employers. Besides, the protestors are also demanding the state government to introduce the Cab Aggregator Act in line with the central government’s Cab Agreegator guidelines. Keshav Kshirsagar, president of Baghtoy Rickshawala organisation said that the state government must introduce both these acts in the upcoming winter session.
The Rajasthan government has already introduced the Gig Workers Registration and Welfare Act in the state and protestors are demanding the same in Maharashtra. According to the officials, delivery agents, auto rickshaw and cab drivers working with companies such as OLA, Uber, Zomato, Swiggy etc have extended their support for the strike and they will also participate in the bandh called on October 25.
It may be noted that the RTO Pune has already declared auto rickshaws running on application based aggregators illegal in absence of proper guidelines for aggregator service for two wheeler and three wheelers in Maharashtra.
