Pimpri, 8th May 2023: In Pimpri Chinchwad city, maintenance and repair works have been started on behalf of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL) to keep the power supply smooth during monsoon and to avoid the possible dangers of power supply interruption.

Although these works are said to be done only on Thursdays, in reality, unabated “load shedding” is going on in the city and suburbs and citizens are suffering due to interruptions in power supply throughout the day.

After the onset of summer, the demand for electricity increases, is putting more load on the power system. Also, to ensure a smooth supply of electricity during monsoons, pre-planned maintenance and repair work have to be done. Accordingly, work has been started at various places in the city.

However, the power supply in many areas is frequently interrupted every day. When contacted to inquire about the same, no one answers the phone. Also, customers are suffering as the contact numbers of some places are always busy. Electricity supply is being interrupted for an hour or two in all places in the city. In some places, it is breaking down throughout the day.

For smooth power supply during summer and monsoon, MSEDCL mainly cuts branches of trees touching overhead power lines, replaces broken pin and disc insulators, checks complete earthing of distribution boxes, poles, and substation equipment, and restores broken earth wires, oil filtration, repair of breakers in substation, battery charging, fuses replacement, laying of underground cables, reinforcement of poles and wires, bent or corroded power poles, provision of guards to high voltage and low voltage power lines as required and repair of existing guarding, removal of sag between wires, insulation spray in old feeder pillars and height of feeder pillars in the rainwater catchment area.

Various works such as extension, installation of PVC spacers on low-pressure power lines, minor repairs of the low-pressure distribution box, and installation of the door are in progress. MSEDCL officials informed that the garbage thrown by the citizens at the power plant sites is also being cleaned in this campaign.

“Pre-planned works are done on Thursdays only. For this, prior notice is given to the customers by sending a message. It also mentions how much time this work will take. This makes it easier for customers to plan work,” said officials.
However, the same does not happen in reality. Consumers are suffering due to interruption of power supply throughout the day.

Before all pre-scheduled works before monsoon, electricity consumers who have registered their mobile numbers with MSEDCL are being given advance notification through SMS. However, the timings given in it are not observed. Even though the message comes a day before, the power supply is interrupted for the whole day. Citizens have suffered because of it.
