Pune: Unauthorised Vegetable Sellers Attack Anti-Encroachment Team In Kharadi; Five Arrested
Kharadi, 26th July 2023: An alarming incident unfolded in Kharadi on Tuesday (25th July) when some unauthorized vegetable sellers launched a violent attack on the anti-encroachment team under the Nagar Road Ward Office of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The incident led to the arrest of five suspected accused who assaulted the team with wooden sticks and iron rods.
Assistant Encroachment Inspector, Kunal Munde (24), a resident of Bopkhel, filed a complaint regarding the incident. The Chandannagar police swiftly took action, and Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Landge confirmed the arrests of Balasaheb Kisan Gayasmudre (49), Sumit Sunil Giri (21), Shekhar Balasaheb Gayasamudre (21), Sunil Bandu Giri (45), and Ganesh Balasaheb Gayasamudre (19), all residents of Kharadi.

The anti-encroachment team, led by Anti-Encroachment Inspector Bhimaji Shinde of the Nagar Road Ward Office, along with Assistant Encroachment Inspector Kunal Munde and several colleagues, was carrying out an operation to clear vendors conducting illegal business on the footpaths of Vadgaonsheri, Vimannagar, and Kharadi.
Trouble ensued when the team reached Sweet India Chowk in Kharadi, and the suspected accused, who were selling vegetables on the footpath, reacted by throwing vegetables onto the road in protest against the action. The situation quickly escalated, leading to an aggressive attack on the encroachment team.
The police swiftly responded to the incident, apprehending the accused involved in the attack. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the incident and to ensure that such acts of violence are dealt with severely.
