Pune, 13th June 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Pune city and district as intense rainfall lashed several parts of the region on Friday. What began as an overcast morning turned into heavy showers by afternoon, affecting both central Pune and its suburbs.

According to the IMD, Pune is likely to experience light to heavy rainfall through 17th June, offering relief from the recent heat as temperatures are expected to drop by 2°C to 4°C. However, the department also warned of potential hazards, including water accumulation, power failures, and strong winds reaching speeds of 40–60 km/h, which may exacerbate civic issues.

The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall in Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Jalna, and Nashik over the next three hours.

The Pune district administration has urged residents to stay alert and exercise caution. Citizens are advised to avoid waterlogged zones, report power outages to local authorities, and carry rain gear while commuting.

Post 17th June, temperatures may rise again, but the city is still expected to receive light to moderate rainfall in the days that follow. Alongside Pune, cities like Mumbai and Nagpur are also forecasted to experience heavy rains over the next few days.

Meanwhile, a severe heatwave continues to grip parts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, where maximum temperatures may reach up to 45°C.

The IMD has encouraged residents to monitor official weather updates regularly and take necessary precautions during this period of fluctuating weather conditions.
