Pune : Undertrial Prisoner Arrested For Planning Dacoity Escapes From Police Custody, Case Registered

Pune 03rd August 2023: An undertrial prisoner who was arrested for planning dacoity in a case registered at Swargate Police Station in the city escaped from a police custody after he was produced before the Pune court on Wednesday. The accused identified as Rajesh Kamble (40) escaped from the court premises on pretext of drinking water from a hotel.

The police team chased Kamble but his accomplice who was already waiting for him with a bike helped him escape from the police custody. The incident took place at around 3 pm on Wednesday when the police were taking him to Yerwada Central Jail from Shivajinagar court.

The accused requested the police personnel to allow him drink water after which he was taken to Hotel Regent. He managed to escape from hotel with the help another person. The police had invoked Maharashtra Control of Organised Act (MCOCA) against Kamble due to his criminal record. He was arrested for an offence registered under sections 402, 399 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4 (25) of the Arms Act.

A case in this regard has been registered at Shivajinagar Police Station under sections 224, 225 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police have launched search for Kamble and his accomplice who helped him escape from the police custody. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
