Pune, 9th September 2025: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has come under sharp criticism following a decline in its ranking in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), falling to 91st place this year. The drop has been attributed to delays and non-recruitment of professors, a move that critics say reflects poorly on the university administration.

Calling the development a “black day” in the university’s history, Yuva Sena Joint Secretary Kalpesh Yadav demanded the immediate resignation of the university’s top officials, including Vice Chancellor Dr. Suresh Gosavi, members of the management council, and the senate.

“The university, once celebrated as the ‘Oxford of the East,’ has lost its identity under the current administration,” Yadav said. He added that improving the quality of education is a shared responsibility, involving the Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Acting Registrar, and members of the university’s governing bodies.

Yadav criticized the current members of the Management Council and the Senate, claiming that unlike their predecessors who contributed significantly to the university’s development, they have become “arrogant” and detached from their duties. “All members of the Management Council and the Senate should immediately submit their collective resignations,” he urged.
