Pune, 25th October 2023: Delays in result announcements at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) have been attributed to ‘confusion in internal assessment,’ a pervasive issue that plagued the summer exams. Instances of delayed assessments and inaccuracies in student grading prompted the university’s examination department to institute corrective measures.

To mitigate future complications, the examination department has issued a mandate, compelling colleges to adhere strictly to the practice of displaying students’ internal marks on notice boards. This directive is aimed at fostering transparency and preventing errors in the assessment process.

In response to prior discrepancies in internal grading, SPPU recently took disciplinary action against 74 colleges. As the university gears up for the October-November 2023 session exams post-Diwali, including practical exams, coordination between examination departments and colleges becomes crucial to restoring a disrupted academic schedule following the challenges posed by the pandemic.

Students, often caught in the crossfire of administrative challenges, raise concerns about the precautions in place for the ongoing academic year. Director of the Board of Examination and Evaluation, Mahesh Kakade, acknowledged the persistent delay despite a return to normalcy post-COVID. He emphasized the need for streamlined coordination among all components involved in the examination process to ensure a timely start to the next academic year.

Kakade stated, “In the interest of students, we are committed to implementing necessary measures. It is now mandatory for colleges to display internal assessment marks on notice boards for 15 days, providing clarity and avoiding confusion. Unfortunately, this rule is not consistently followed in most colleges, leaving students uninformed about their marks.”
