Pune University Issues Apology For ‘Jihadi Terrorism’ Question In Final Year Exam

Pune, October 28, 2020: After Punekarnews.in published a report on the derogatory questions asked to the final year students of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), a public apology has been released by the SPPU administration in this regard.

SPPU’s final year examinations began online and offline from October 12. Since the commencement of the online examination, the students have experienced technical problems such as non-appearance of subject papers, non-submission after completion, server down, and black screen while solving the paper. Just a few days ago, when the online exam started smoothly, a controversy erupted when a question was asked by the university which created a social rift. A provocative question read “Jihad is an example of which terrorism?” The options were; Religious, Revolutionary, Political and State-sponsored.

However, realizing that misleading questions have been asked. A public apology statement has been circulated, which read,” Savitribai Phule Pune University has received complaints that social and religious sentiments have been hurt due to a question asked in the examination. Clarification has been sought from the concerned in this regard, and the university will take appropriate action. The university is apologizing for this whole sort of thing. In this connection, it has also come to the notice of the university that there is a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the university by creating some fake questions’ images which are going viral on social media. The university has initiated the necessary legal action in this regard.”
