Pune, 12th November 2022: The selection process for Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has started in earnest. The university has published an advertisement for the selection of a vice-chancellor and invited applications. The university will get a full-time vice-chancellor in the next three months.

Dr Nitin Karamalkar’s tenure as Vice-Chancellor ended in May. After that, the additional charge of the post of Vice-Chancellor of the University was entrusted to Karbhari Kale, Vice Chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technical University.

The Vice-Chancellor selection process was stalled as the Governor did not approve the changes made by the Mahavikas Aghadi government in the University Act. The state government scrapped the proposed changes to the University Act after the July transfer of power in the state.

Subsequently, the Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee was appointed in September. After about 1.5 months, the Vice-Chancellor Search Committee released an advertisement through the university on Saturday (November 12). Aspirants have been given a deadline of December 14 to apply.

In this background, it will generally take 2-2.5 months to complete the process of screening the applications, interviews through the search committee etc.
