Pune, 10th March 2023: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is in the spotlight again for exam malpractice. The ongoing Master of Business Administration (MBA) first-year theory papers have come under scrutiny due to the recent controversy over the Managerial Accounting (revised pattern 2019) paper. Students discovered that the questions in the paper were an exact replica of the 2022 question paper, leading to demands for the cancellation of the exam.

The SPPU has all MBA question papers posted on its official website, and the Dean of Management Studies, Parag Kalkar, has admitted to cross-checking the papers and finding them to be identical. However, Kalkar claims he did not receive any complaints about the issue. Meanwhile, a professor who wished to remain anonymous has stated that the error is the result of serious negligence on the part of the SPPU board of studies and paper setting team of professors.

Santosh Dhore, a former senate member of SPPU, has called for an immediate investigation into the matter and demanded that the guilty parties be held accountable. Dhore has also criticized the university’s handling of the situation, stating that it has tarnished the institution’s reputation.

Despite calls for comment, both the Vice-Chancellor, Karbhari Kale, and the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Sanjeev Sonawane, were unavailable for comment.

The controversy has added to the ongoing issue of exam malpractice at SPPU, which witnesses chaos during the conduct of examinations every year. The university has promised to initiate a detailed investigation and take appropriate action. However, the incident has raised serious questions about the university’s examination system and its ability to maintain the integrity of its exams.
