New Delhi/Pune, 7th February 2022: Professor Santisree Dhulipudi Pandit has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the country’s prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. She will be the first woman vice-chancellor of JNU. Her term will be five years. Prior to this, she was a professor at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).

Prof Dhulipudi, who is going to be the 13th Vice-Chancellor of JNU, will succeed Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar, who has been appointed as the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). He had been discharging responsibilities as the acting vice-chancellor after his five-year term as the vice-chancellor of JNU was completed last year.

Prof Dhulipudi is an alumnus of JNU. She earned her MPhil in 1986 and PhD in 1990 from the university’s School of International Studies. Earlier, she did her post-graduation in Political Science from Presidency College, Madras. She has also taught at Goa University before joining SPPU in 1992.

She was born in St. Petersburg, USSR. Her mother was a professor of Tamil and Telugu subjects in the Leningrad Oriental Faculty Department there.
