Pune University Receives Nearly 10,000 Applications for 111 Teaching Positions

Pune, 16th February 2024: Officials at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) have disclosed that they received an impressive count of almost 10,000 applications from eager candidates. With Friday marking the deadline for applying to the 111 available teaching positions, the university is witnessing a surge in interest.

Notably, the institution has not conducted a recruitment process in over eight years, leading to a significant 58% vacancy rate among its sanctioned teaching positions.

The last recruitment drive at this 75-year-old university occurred in 2016, with the advertisement released in November 2015. Prior to that, the recruitment process took place in 2013. Out of the total 384 sanctioned teaching positions, only 159 are currently occupied. A university official provided insights, stating, “Approximately 10,500 aspirants have visited the website. However, not all these applications are complete. As of Thursday evening, 5,835 applications have been duly filled and submitted.”

After completing the online application forms, candidates are required to submit hard copies of their documents to the university for thorough verification. The official further explained, “These documents undergo a meticulous checking process. At present, 2,305 aspirants have successfully submitted their documents. While February 16 remains the final date for online applications and document submission, candidates still have eight days to submit the physical copies.”
