Pune, 7th March 2025: The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) administration has implemented preventive measures to eliminate rodents and pests in its hostels, following directives from Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council, Dr. Neelam Gorhe.

Students residing in the university hostel had been facing persistent issues with rats and bedbugs. In one alarming incident, a student was hospitalized after suffering a rat bite. Despite multiple complaints, no action had been taken initially. Taking cognizance of the matter, Dr. Gorhe directed the university to address the issue.
In response, the university administration has undertaken several measures, including maintaining cleanliness in the hostel premises, repairing and replacing old roof sheets of Boys’ Hostel No. 6, appointing a hostel head and assistant, and spraying pesticides in rooms and common areas to eradicate pests. Additionally, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has placed rodenticides in the hostel premises to curb the infestation.
