Pune University To Get New Vice-Chancellor In June
Pune, 29th April 2023: A letter has been sent to the concerned people who have qualified for an interview by the Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). The selected persons have been called for an interview in the third week of May.
So as the coming new academic year (2023- 24) begins; it is said that the university will get a new Vice-Chancellor in June.
The then Vice-Chancellor, Dr Nitin Karamalkar’s tenure ended on 18th May 2022. After that, the Vice-Chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University Dr Karbhari Kale was entrusted with the charge of the Additional Vice-Chancellor.
After a long wait, in January 2023, The Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee was announced under the chairmanship of Dr Anil Sahasrabuddhe, the former president of All India Council for Technical Education. Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur Dr Abhay Karandikar, Additional Chief Secretary, Water Resources Department, Deepak Kapoor, and former Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Women’s University, Dr Meena Chandavarkar (University Grants Commission Representative) were selected as members of the Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee of the University.
Applications were invited for the post of Vice-Chancellor through this committee. The deadline was given till 30th March. About 90 applications were received for this post. Some of the shortlisted candidates have been invited to the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai (IIT, Powai) between the 18th and 19th of May for the first round of interviews and interaction. The election papers in this regard have been sent to the concerned.
Five names will be selected through the selection committee from the interview and interaction for the post of Vice-Chancellor. After that, these five names will be recommended to the Governor. From this, the Governor and Chancellor of the Universities will announce the name of the Vice-Chancellor. Therefore, it is expected that the university will get a new vice-chancellor around June.
