Pune: Vegetable Seller Killed in Business Dispute, Unidentified Man Murdered Near Laxminarayan Theatre

Pune, 6th May 2024: An incident occurred in the Datta Nagar area of Katraj where a vegetable seller was killed by crushing his head with a stone. Investigation revealed that the murder stemmed from a dispute over the vegetable sales business. A case has been registered against two individuals in this regard. Additionally, an incident of murder in the Laxminarayan Theatre area came to light on Sunday (5th May). However, the identity of the victim has not been ascertained.

The murdered vegetable seller has been identified as Vilas Jaywant Bandal, aged 52, from Katraj. The incident came to light on Sunday evening when Bandal was killed by crushing his head with a stone near the Datta Nagar bus stand on the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass of the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway. Deputy Commissioner of Police Smartana Patil, Senior Police Inspector Dashrath Patil, and Crime Branch Inspector Sharad Jhine rushed to the scene as soon as they received information about the incident. The police immediately initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that Bandal’s death resulted from a dispute over the vegetable sales business. A case has been registered against two individuals in connection with this matter, and efforts are underway to locate the absconding suspects.

An incident of murder, involving a man being struck on the head with a cement block near Laxminarayan Theatre, came to light on Sunday. The identity of the victim has not yet been determined. Police suspect that the deceased individual is a wanderer. Gautam Ghanshyam Turupmare, aged 36 and a resident of Parvati, has been arrested by the police in connection with this case. Beggars often seek shelter in the subway near Laxminarayan Theatre, with some individuals reportedly using drugs in the area. Police suspect that the murder may have occurred following an altercation during drug use. The accused, Gautam, works as a labourer. Authorities have confirmed he too is a wanderer, and he has been placed under arrest.
