Nigdi, 16th May 2023: Alleging that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) ‘F’ Zonal Office (Nigdi) is taking unfair action, vendors started an indefinite agitation at Chikhli Road, Krishnanagar Chowk on 8th May. They demand that this action be stopped and official hawker zones be implemented, bogus beneficiaries and bogus hawker zones should be canceled.

Kashinath Nakhate, Regional Organizer Anil Barwakar, Raju Khandagale, Ward President Balaji Lokhande, Convener Irfan Mulla, Dhuldev Metkari, Sugriv Narwate, Laxman Thombare, Balasaheb Shedge, Pandurang Shelvane, Nitin Kakade, Imtiaz Pathan, Shankar Pawar, Savita Salunkhe, Shakuntala Tupe, Meenakshi Salunkhe, Chhaya Akhade, Shakuntala Shinde, Afzal Anwar, Smita Deshpande, Revan Siddhagundi, Dada Bhanwase, Salim Dange, Sujata Narwate, etc, were present during the agitation.

On this occasion, Nakhate informed that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is not strictly implementing the Street Vendors Act, but the poor are being taxed wrongly by giving relief to the big businessmen. Bogus beneficiaries and illegal hawker zones are being processed by forwarding the names of vendors from Sane Chowk to Thermax Chowk in Krishnanagar (Nigdi).

Former Pimpri-Chinchwad Urban City Development Authority and now PMRDA occupied land and the proposed ring railway site has been covered with cement and called a hawker zone. It is being implemented incorrectly. It has been strongly opposed by common sellers. Nakhate has warned that proper planning should be done by keeping the vendors and the organization in trust regarding street vendors, otherwise, the said agitation will continue.
