Pune: Vidyanand Bhavan High School Student Excels at National Science Seminar on Millets

Nigdi, 9th January 2024: In an impressive feat, Shreyas Mallikarjun Udagi, a 10th-grade student at Vidyanand Bhavan High School in Nigdi, clinched the 3rd prize at the National Science Seminar titled “Millets – A Superfood or a Diet Fad?” The event, organized by the National Council of Science Museums, aimed to raise awareness about the consumption of millets in society.

The seminar, held at the National Science Centre in Delhi, focused on fostering scientific curiosity and critical thinking among the youth. It included various activities such as exhibitions, PPT and paper chart presentations, viva aptitude tests, and written aptitude tests. Students participated by sharing their knowledge and insights into the potential of millet as a superfood and discussing whether the current trend is a passing diet fad.

Shreyas Udagi received accolades for his outstanding performance, including a trophy, certificate, book set, and scholarship. The awards were presented by the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr) Venu Gopal Achanta of CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, and Dr. Khader Vali, known as the Millet Man of India. Shreyas Udagi was guided by the school’s science teacher, Smita Kasar, and received support from Agricultural Officer Dr. Gajanan Narkar.

Dr Bharat Chavan Patil, Chairman of Satchidanand Education Society, felicitated Shreyas Udagi and Smita Kasar for bringing laurels to Vidyanand Bhavan High School. The event was graced by Trustee Supriya Chavan Patil, Shweta Bharat Chavan Patil, Prof. D.R. Karnure, Advisor Chhaya Habbu, Principal of Secondary Section Syril Jagan, Principal of Primary Section Kshitija Misal, and Supervisors Manisha Surve, Jayshree Pawar, and Archana Banawali.
