Pune: Wagholi on alert as COVID-19 cases continue to rise rapidly, Gram Panchayat plans to make lockdown stricter
Wagholi, July 7, 2020: The number of Coronavirus positive patients in Wagholi has been increasing rapidly, and has now crossed 50.
Out of the 53 who tested COVID-19 positive, 22 have recovered and 31 are active. Former Sarpanch of Wagholi Grampanchayat has also tested positive for COVID-19.
In the last eight days, the number of patients in the Wagholi area has been on the rise. Due to this, Wagholi Gram Panchayat has decided to strictly enforce the rules of lockdown. Considering the population density in Wagholi and the increasing number of positive cases, the local administration has written to the District Collector asking for permission to enforce a special Janta curfew in Wagholi.
Wagholi Gram Panchayat has decided to penalise those keeping their shops open after 5 pm, those roaming without masks with the help of police. The local governing body has also decided to strictly control the crowds in market areas and register those leaving Wagholi for work. While around 5,000 people leave Wagholi everyday for work, hardly 150 have registered till now.
