Pune: Wagholi Residents Slam PMC Over Crumbling Roads, Demand Immediate Action
Wagholi, 7th July 2025: Residents of large housing societies in Wagholi, including AWHO Vijay Vihar, Primera Homes, and Rohan Abhilasha, have raised serious concerns over the deplorable condition of a key access road connecting Fire Station–AWHO Vijay Vihar–More Corner–Rohan Abhilasha Road. The stretch, according to residents, has become a “living nightmare,” plagued by waterlogging, mud, and large potholes, despite the area falling under the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Anil Kumar Mishra, president of the WACO Welfare Association, voiced the collective frustration of residents. “Is this negligence by PMC or a clear case of corruption?” he asked. “This isn’t just any locality. AWHO Vijay Vihar houses ex-servicemen—people who have risked their lives for the nation. And now, they are forced to live in such undignified conditions.”
According to Mishra, despite a board claiming that ₹10 lakh was sanctioned for road development over a year ago, no work has been initiated. “Where did the ₹10 lakh go? Why has no action been taken? The condition of this road is not just unfortunate—it’s disgraceful,” he said.
Residents claim that the area becomes impassable during the monsoon due to deep water-filled potholes and a complete lack of proper drainage. The poor road infrastructure is impacting daily commutes, emergency services, and the overall well-being of the community.
Mishra added, “We are not asking for luxury infrastructure. We are simply demanding a motorable road and a functioning drainage system. If PMC doesn’t act within a month, we will be forced to launch a peaceful, constitutional protest. We hope the authorities don’t push us to that point.”
The residents have put forth the following demands:
Immediate widening, repair, and asphalting of the road.
Construction of a proper drainage and water discharge system.
An inquiry into the utilization of the ₹10 lakh that was approved.
Accountability and public disclosure from PMC and the responsible officers.
Team WACO has also questioned how Pune can aspire to be a “Smart City” when its basic infrastructure fails in expanding suburbs like Wagholi. “This road is not just a civic issue—it’s a question of respect, dignity, and basic human rights,” Mishra emphasized.
As the monsoon worsens road conditions across the city, residents of Wagholi are hoping their long-standing demands won’t be washed away once again.
