Pune: Wagholi Residents Threaten to Boycott Municipal Elections Over Lack of Basic Amenities
Wagholi, 3rd October 2025: Around 30,000 residents of Ivy Estate in Wagholi have announced their intention to boycott the upcoming municipal elections, citing years of neglect by authorities over basic civic facilities. The estate, comprising approximately 10,000 flats, faces persistent problems with roads, water supply, and sewage management.
Residents have put up placards declaring, “No road, no water, no sewage system, no voting,” highlighting their frustration with unresolved infrastructure issues. The road leading into Ivy Estate becomes waterlogged and filled with sewage during the monsoon, making daily commutes difficult and unhygienic.
The issue stems from a longstanding dispute between the original landowner and the developer, which is currently under litigation. As a result, the road remains in poor condition. Despite repeated protests by residents, the municipal administration has failed to take corrective action.
“The PMRDA grants licenses for housing projects, and the municipal corporation collects taxes, yet both bodies are neglecting their responsibilities,” said a local resident. “The developer has already sold the flats and has no incentive to maintain infrastructure. Our fight continues, but the administration remains indifferent, which is why we have decided to boycott voting.”
Another resident added, “There is no solid road to reach our society, which houses around 30,000 people. Sewage collects on the road, and walking through it is unavoidable. We have supported the administration repeatedly, but their inaction leaves us with no option but to boycott the elections.”
Residents say their boycott is intended to send a strong message to authorities and push for immediate attention to the ongoing civic issues.
