Pune: Wakad-Hinjawadi Link Road to Open Soon, Traffic Congestion Likely to Ease
Wakad, 16th April 2026: Efforts to improve traffic flow and ease daily commuting in the Wakad–Hinjewadi belt of Pimpri-Chinchwad are nearing a key milestone, with a crucial link road connecting Wakad directly to the highway approaching completion.
According to a press note, the road stretch from Utkarsh Chowk (Datt Mandir Road) to Bliss Society via Eden Tower and Vedant Society, extending up to the highway underpass near Tip Top Hotel, is in its final phase. The project is expected to be opened for public use within the next 10 to 12 days.
The development is part of Ward No. 25 corporator Rahul Tanaji Kalate’s 100-day action plan, under which he had committed to completing pending infrastructure works soon after assuming office. So far, three missing link roads have already been made operational through his initiative.
The Wakad area has long faced traffic congestion due to rapid urbanisation and inadequate road connectivity. In an effort to provide a long-term solution, Kalate prioritised accelerating work on missing link roads.
Following an anti-encroachment drive, the remaining work on Datt Mandir Road was expedited, paving the way for the current highway connectivity project.
Officials stated that while the original development plan proposed an 18-metre-wide road, an interim 9-metre-wide stretch was taken up to ensure quicker relief for commuters. The work on this stretch is now nearing completion.
Kalate, along with civic officials, recently inspected the site and reviewed the progress. He also directed authorities to complete the remaining footpath work along Datt Mandir Road and in the Eden Tower and Bliss Society areas at the earliest, with a focus on quality and speed.
Once operational, the new road is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Wakad and the highway, reduce traffic congestion, and make daily travel faster and more convenient for residents.
Speaking on the development, Kalate said, “This is one of the key assurances fulfilled within the first 100 days. Work on roads and missing links in Wakad has been accelerated accordingly. I appeal to citizens to cooperate by following parking and traffic discipline.”
He added that efforts will continue to address civic issues and improve infrastructure for residents of Wakad, Tathawade, and Punawale.
