Pune: Wakad Residents Stage Hunger Strike For Maratha Community’s Reservation In Maharashtra

Wakad, 1st November 2023: Maratha community in Wakad conducted a day Hunger strike at Wakad Chowk in support of Manoj Jarange Patil. This initiative was led by Wakad Residents Akash Bodke and Avinash Kalate.

The Maratha Community in Wakad supported this initiative, including women. Maratha community members in most districts of Maharashtra are deprived of affordable education and admissions in well-known government schools, colleges, engineering, medical, and architecture colleges in Maharashtra. “The Maratha community is not entitled to any reservations in government recruitment drives, leading to unemployment in many districts. Students from other castes have secured admissions in various government institutions despite lower percentage marks, often with concessional or no fees and additional facilities”, they said.

This hunger strike was supported by Mohan Kalate, Santosh Kalate, Ranjeet Kalate, Vinayak Gaikwad, Sandip Kaspate, Vishal Kalate, Rahul Kalate, Ganesh Kaspate, Vikram Waghmare, and many other social workers and well-known personalities in Wakad.
