Pune: Warje Residents Suffer Electricity Outages Due To Damage To Underground Power Lines During Digging

Pune, 14th March 2023: Residents of the Warje area have been facing power outages for the past eight to ten days due to repeated disruptions of high-pressure underground power lines of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) caused by digging for sewage pipelines.
This has resulted in inconvenience to 3-4 thousand electricity consumers in Dahanukar Colony, Prathamesh Society, Bhujbal Township, Dukkarkhind area, Khanwasti, Hindusthan Bakery, Ramnagar, as well as Pune Metro and other places for 1-2 hours on average. MSEDCL has also suffered financial losses due to the damage caused.
MSEDCL informed the Pune Municipal Corporation’s sewage maintenance and repair department about the damage caused by digging and a joint inspection was conducted at the excavation site in Warje. It was decided that measures will be taken to prevent damage to the power lines during digging, and the concerned contractor has been ordered to pay the entire cost of repairing the power lines to MSEDCL.
The contractor of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), responsible for laying the sewage water pipeline, started digging without informing the local offices of MSEDCL. Between March 1 and 8, 22 KV underground power lines were broken at various locations such as Warje Bridge, Khanwasti, Warje Traffic Police Post, Ramnagar, and Warje Water Supply.
MSEDCL immediately informed the concerned officials of the Municipal Corporation in writing after the contractor refused to take responsibility for the damage caused by the JCB during the digging. A complaint was also filed at Warje police station. The joint inspection by MSEDCL and Municipal Corporation officials at the excavation site resulted in measures and coordination to ensure no further damage to the underground power lines during digging.
The Municipal Corporation has directed the concerned contractor to pay the entire cost of repairing the power lines of MSEDCL.
