Pune: Water Discharge from Khadakwasla Dam Increased to 8,522 Cusecs; Citizens Advised to Stay Alert
Pune, 3rd July 2025: The irrigation department on Wednesday increased the water discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River basin to 8,522 cusecs, up from the earlier release of 6,451 cusecs, due to rising water levels following continued rainfall in the catchment areas.
The decision was taken at 10:00 am based on current inflow and reservoir conditions, and further changes in discharge are likely depending on weather conditions and rainfall intensity.
“The discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam has been increased to 8,522 cusecs. Citizens are requested to remain cautious, especially those residing along the riverbanks. The discharge may be reduced or increased again based on rainfall and seasonal factors,” said Mohan Bhadane, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division, Swargate.
Authorities have advised residents living near the Mutha River to remain alert and avoid venturing close to the river, especially during peak flow hours. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates as required.
The Khadakwasla Dam is a key water source for Pune and its surrounding areas, and its release management plays a crucial role in flood control during the monsoon season.
